A long pose figure drawing I'm working on in Terry Furchgott's Figure Drawing in Interiors class at Gage Academy.

It meets only once a week. These images are one week apart. We have a couple more sessions.

A Tale of Two Cities

Sat, 2014-05-17 11:15

I forgot to mark off A Tale of Two Cities, which I read last summer. Now I only have two Dickens novels left to read. I should start one soon.

  • Dombey and Son (1.95)
  • David Copperfield (1.91)
  • Bleak House (1.91)
  • Nicholas Nickleby (1.86)
  • Martin Chuzzlewit (1.85)
  • Little Dorrit (1.85)
  • Our Mutual Friend (1.83)
  • Pickwick Papers (1.72)
  • Barnaby Rudge (1.41)
  • The Old Curiosity Shop (1.19)
  • Great Expectations (1.01)
  • Oliver Twist (0.91)
  • A Tale of Two Cities (0.78)
  • Hard Times (0.58)

The numbers are proportional to the length of the book (they should be
approximately the number of characters in the novel, in millions).

one-dimensional continuous automata with color

Fri, 2014-05-09 23:16

Each frame is the result of a one dimensional continuous automata. The bottom row of pixels is the initial state of the CA; each frame has a slightly different initial state. The CA is iterated upward, and the "smoothness" of the CA changes gradually throughout.

My favorite film viewings of 2013

Sun, 2014-03-02 00:43

I try at the end of each year to go through my movie log and pick out my favorite films that I watched that year. 2013 was not a good year for me, movie-watching wise, but I figured I ought to list something to mark the year. So, here are a few films that were decent that I saw in 2013:

I hope for some better films in 2014.

RPM 2014

Sat, 2014-03-01 13:20

Each February, starting in 2008, I have attempted to complete the RPM Challenge.

Some health issues, research, teaching and art class keeping me distracted from sound making, but
I got these things out this year.

1. Barber Pole Kind of Thing - 2:01 - An attempt at a Shepard tone. Not completely successful, but not bad.

2. Continuous Automata 2014 - 4:04 - A track created using a continuous automata to make the spectra. I still haven't hit on something I really like with this method; I guess I'll keep trying.

3. Guitar 1- 2:57 - An illustration of a crazy guitar effect I wrote in Csound. It is a quad-envelope-controlled-ring modulation deal.

4. Random Walks GoGo Dancer I - 6:22 - The product of two random walks on a sample from the TV show Dragnet.

5. Random Walks GoGo Dancer II - 5:23 - Another product of two random walks on a sample from the TV show Dragnet.
